Progressive Pep Rally—Post-Election Edition | Tonight at 6:30

If you are like us, you are probably feeling anxious and a little disappointed.  We’re having a special meeting tonight, so come talk to some like-minded folks and let’s commiserate together tonight at 6:30PM.

We will also be discussing the Special Election for House District 49, which will be taking place Tuesday November 17.  We’ll be doing some GOTV activities in the next couple of weeks.

Vote Tuesday|Meet Thursday

Happy August!

Montevallo’s municipal election is Tuesday August 25 from 7AM-7PM at the Boys and Girls Club building.  As a reminder, these local elections are won and lost by 100 (or fewer for city council) votes sometimes, so please, please remember to vote on Tuesday!  Also, make a commitment to remind your friends and family to go as well.  If you have an absentee ballot, it must be delivered to city hall by 12 noon on Tuesday (if you haven’t already mailed it).

Our monthly meeting will be held via Zoom this Thursday, August 27, and we will be discussing voter registration drives and GOTV activities for the 2020 election.  If you have received an email with login information, please contact Andrea Eckelman.

Also, a memorial service commemorating the 131st anniversary of the 1889 lynching will be held Saturday, August 29, at the corner of Main and Shelby streets, the site of the recently installed EJI marker. The brief service will begin at 8:30 AM. In order to maintain social distancing, all wishing to attend should email Kathy King (kingk@montevallo.edu).  Please do not park in the lot immediately adjacent to the marker either, so that it can be used for those in attendance.

July Meeting Follow Up

Thank you so much to all of you that were able to log on and listen to our city council candidates speak last week.  And, a big thanks to each of our candidates for taking the time to speak with us!  As a reminder, the deadline to register to vote in our municipal elections is August 10 – take a few minutes to confirm your registration and check with your family and friends that they are registered.  The election will be held August 25, and turnout will be key!

Joyce Jones’ mayoral campaign will need some help addressing postcards and hanging door signs in the coming weeks.  If you are interested in helping, please email us so that we can get your name on the list!

Here is additional information for the candidates who spoke to us last week:

District 1 – Tonya Mayton

District 3 – Kenny Dukes

District 4 –  Jason Peterson

District 5 – Arthur Herbert
Email – Arthur@HerbertForCouncil.com

We were not able to get either candidate from District 2 to speak with us, but please contact us if you have information on these candidates that we can pass along.

Mark your calendars for our next meeting August 27th, and we’ll send more information soon.
Keep up the good fight!

July Meeting – tonight!

We hope you can join us Thursday, July 23 at 6:30 PM for our monthly meeting.  This month, we have three candidates for city council who will be introducing themselves to us and talking to us about why they are running and their vision for Montevallo.

We will be meeting via Zoom. If you have not received login information, please contact Andrea Eckelman.

See you soon!
